Major Ramayana Sites in Sri Lanka

Ashok Vatika (Hakgala Botanical Garden):
This garden is believed to be where Sita was held captive by Ravana.

Sita Amman Temple:
Located in Nuwara Eliya, this temple is dedicated to Sita, Rama, Lakshmana, and Hanuman. It’s believed to be the site where Sita bathed in the nearby stream.

Divurumpola Temple:
This is the location where Sita underwent the Agni Pariksha (trial by fire) to prove her purity.

Munneswaram Temple:

In Nuwara Eliya, this place is where Ravana’s son, Meghanath, is said to have performed penance.

Ussangoda:
A national park believed to have been a landing strip for Ravana’s flying chariot, the Pushpaka Vimana.

Rumassala:
A mountain near Galle, associated with the Sanjeevani mountain that Hanuman carried from the Himalayas to heal Lakshmana.

Sigiriya:
While not directly mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana, local traditions link Sigiriya to Ravana’s palaces.
